Demand is exploding due to the energy transition. One argument against an e-vehicle was often the number of charging stations. But these are also increasing. In Germany, large petrol station companies must now offer fast charging points with a charging capacity of at least 150 kilowatts at their petrol stations in addition to petrol and diesel. As a result, around 8,000 new fast-charging points will be available for e-car drivers. This will strengthen the nationwide supply and thus also the acceptance of electromobility.
Lithium and cobalt are among the key components of lithium-ion batteries. And these batteries are not only used in electric vehicles, but also in wind turbines, hydrogen technologies, solar systems and many portable devices. According to experts, the extraction of copper, lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earths cannot keep pace with development and demand. Lithium, also known as white gold, is particularly affected. For this reason, work is also being done on recycling.
In any case, the range of electric cars on offer is getting better and wider. Every price range is represented. Through research, the automotive industry is recognizing how electric car customers think and is adapting accordingly. There are basically four types of electric car buyers today. There are the status-conscious conservatives, for whom performance and tradition count, and the progressive electric car drivers, who are more interested in the technology. Then there are the frugal pragmatists, for whom the electric car is more a means to an end, and the eco-techies, who like technology and ecology. It is undisputed that the demand for lithium will grow, so companies should back the right horse with lithium.
